FINAL EXAM INFORMATION

The final exam is scheduled for (TBA) from (TBA) in (TBA). This is scheduled by the registrar and is not flexible. DO NOT make travel arrangements that will require you to leave campus prior to the final exam. All sections will take the exam at the same time in the same room.

IF YOU HAVE A CONFLICT:

Students who have a university conflict with the exam time will have to schedule a makeup exam for one of their conflicting tests. Of course we would rather that you reschedule your OTHER test, but we do understand that this cannot always be done.

If you have a conflict with the exam and cannot get a change from your other instructor, bring a list of your ENTIRE exam schedule to your instructor sometime before Friday, April 24. After April 24, we will not accommodate you. On your printout, write your email address. Alternately, you can send this requested information to the Course Coordinator, Dan McKinney, via email (mckinney at binghamton dot edu). A conflict, as defined by University policy, is when a student has more than one exam scheduled at the same time, or has three exams within a twenty-four hour period. These are the only two reasons for which a student is entitled to a makeup. Students without a true conflict are expected to be at the regularly scheduled exam. Do not make travel plans that include leaving campus prior to the final exam. This will not be considered a sufficient reason for rescheduling your exam.

After we have collected all of the conflict requests we will notify you as to when the makeup exam will be scheduled. It will probably NOT be before the regularly scheduled exam. Indeed, if you request a makeup, be prepared to stay on campus through all of exam week. Balancing student schedules and room availability does not always lead to the most convenient makeup exam time.

TEST INFORMATION:

The final exam will be cumulative, covering any of the material covered in the course. It is worth 300 points, 30% of the final course grade.

The exam will not include any material from sections in the text that were not covered during the semester. All other content is "fair game."

The material will be covered on the exam in roughly the same proportions that time was spent on it during the semester. There is some emphasis on solving equations and inequalities, and graphing functions. Two exceptions: Section 2.4 will be well represented since it has not been tested yet. Mastery of Chapter 1 material is essential for success on the test, but there will be few direct questions from this chapter.

FORMULAS:

A copy of the formulas that will be provided for you at the exam is here. Notice that this does include the sine and cosine sum formulas which were not included on earlier tests. Also this list includes the formulas from section 2.4.

PROCEDURE:

Students will not be allowed into the test room until approximately five minutes prior to the start of the test. A proctor will let you know when you can enter.
Upon entering, look on the front board to see if there are last-minute instructions.

The tests will already be on the desks. On each test is the name of a specific student. Find the test with your name on it and sit there. DO NOT MOVE THE TESTS.

DO NOT OPEN THE TEST UNTIL YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO.
All of your belongings need to be placed out of the way. Do not leave things in the aisles. The only things that should be on your desk are your student ID and a writing utensil.
When you are finished with the test, give it to YOUR instructor. Then you may exit quietly.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE TEST:

Bring your student ID.
Bring something to write with.
You will not need your texts, notebooks or other study materials. Calculators are not allowed. You will not need your own scrap paper.
You will not be allowed to access any electronic devices during the test. Doing so will be understood to be cheating and your test will be taken away immediately. So, be sure to turn off your phones prior to the beginning of the test. If your phone rings during the test, LET IT RING! If there are disturbances during the test, the responsible party could be penalized.
If there is not a working clock in the test room, the proctors will keep you apprised of time remaining.

STUDY STRATEGY:

To study for the exam you should first look over all of your previous exams. Make sure that if you were to take those tests now you would get a perfect score (study the solutions compared to what was written on your paper and understand any errors on your paper). After this, the best way to study is to work problems. This is much more beneficial than spending hours reviewing notes. If you have trouble with a set of problems you could check that section in the text for "Important Idea"s and examples. But, in general, your best way to study is to work problems, work problems, work problems. Good luck.

OFFICE HOURS:

Each instructor will inform his/her class concerning office hours, if any, during exam week. Do not assume that regular semester hours will be followed. Indeed, do not assume that your instructor will be available at all. Exam week is a very busy time for instructors, too!

REVIEW SESSIONS: There may be instructor-participating review sessions outside of class time. Students will be informed closer to the date of the exam whether such reviews will take place. Otherwise, students are encouraged to work in small groups to review material.
